Postgraduate department was founded in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation dated 20 April, 1993. It was set up on 10 September, 1993 on three specialities.

Today Nizhnevartovsk State University of Humanities offers qualification training in 21 specializations. Most of the specialities, which are opened at the university, are absolutely new and unique in Khanty-Mansiysk  Autonomous District.
